Saying goodbye to the nursery

Jack’s nursery is the first room in the house I really designed and decorated; where I bought the exact furniture I wanted, did a wall treatment, got art just for the room. I remember vividly hitting the “Complete Purchase” button on his crib and it finally feeling real that we were having our baby after 2 years of trying for him and a long, hard pregnancy. His room is the first room in this house that made me realize - we’re raising our family here. This is our kids’ childhood home. And it makes all of this feel like a big deal. And I have sat in that room, in that corner chair, every single day since we put it there, for hours a day. Rocking to sleep, nursing, reading books, cuddling, all hours of the day and night. For over three years now. And now that he’s three, well outgrown his crib, and busy busy, it’s time to go from nursery to bid kid room. And that’s a bittersweet thing.

And while I’m sad, I’m also really excited to see this fun room come together just for our sweet kiddo.

First up - Befores. The room hasn’t changed almost at all since we completed it the month before Jack arrived with the exception of all the popcorn ceilings being removed a couple of months ago. We never even installed the toddler rail on his crib because he’s never tried to climb out and has just been content with us putting him in and taking him out every day (far cry from one of our older kids who climbed out at 8.5 months!!).

So here is what we’re working with. These photos are about as real as they get because I I didn’t have time to both tidy and take photos but I think we’re good enough friends that I don’t have to clean for you. ;)

It’s pretty obvious we need some storage, a new bed, and some general style and upgrades. The nursery has served us so well over the last three years and I’m really excited to see it grow into its next phase - a big kid room. Jack is big into space and rockets right now so we’re leaning very loosely into that. Nothing that’s big, expensive, or permanent will be themed. But a few key accessories will really make it feel exciting for him and his current interests. Add in a new bed, some more blue paint, a different rug, some lighting, and some furniture.. and you’ve got yourself a room!

But spoiler alert.. we’ve already started! So stay tuned for a mood board coming soon and real-time updates via Instagram!
