Snow Day in Seattle

When we lived in Colorado, snow didn't seem like a big deal. It was more of a nuisance than anything. But here in Seattle, a wee bit of snow slows the whole city down. A lot bit of snow turns into a full fledged snow day for the whole town. And I have to admit, that when the snow hits the ground, I'm not one to gear up and roll around in it. Maybe it's the Texas roots in me, but snow has always been little more than cold wet stuff and an excuse to sit and read a good book.

So there I sat yesterday morning, Bullet Journaling, cozied up in the living room while the boys played, ready to enjoy our day inside. Tomas was working from home, the roads were quiet, the snow was peaceful. And the boys got restless. The puppy got restless.

Everyone started running around, making messes. And just as I was stepping on yet another car in the floor, staring at the pile of laundry that needed folding, and listening to the boys in their room refusing yet another nap, I just about lost my mind. I woke up to this big pile of snow in the yard, hoping for a quiet day in, and there I was with all the normal responsibilities and busy littles of every other day, squashing my dreams of a good book, feet up, and quiet.

Truth be told... I was grumpy. I didn't want to play outside, I didn't want to get wet and messy. But in the back of my mind, behind my own inner-tantrum, I know we just needed to get out and go play. So out to play we did. And it turned out to be a really good way to get the wiggles out, celebrate winter (even though I'm wishing for Spring), and gave me a good reminder to stop fighting it sometimes, and go with the flow. And just go play in the snow.

So we grabbed jackets and boots, and just ran out the front door, with cars in tow of course, because #boymom. We built a snowman, Gatsby made himself right at home, and the hubs enjoyed a little break from work.

But all good things must come to an end. Jude went up to the Snowman, name Owaf. Not Olaf. Owaf, because that's what the boys call him. Anyway, Jude went up to Olaf and tried to steal his nose, because I guess he wanted a snack. Hubs said he was going to take Jude's nose instead. And because toddlers are toddlers, Jude got upset about his nose being taken, and the crying ensued.

Did I mention we were team no naps yesterday? Oy. So inside we went, the boys took a hot bubble bath and we all had a hot cocoa. Now here I sit, finally with that silence I lusted for earlier. The boys are watching Frozen, and I'm here blogging and editing photos. The laundry still needs to be folded and the boys never napped today. But we built a snowman, and we made some memories. We got outside. And we had some cocoa. Overall? It was a pretty good snow day.

Now melt melt melt, snow! This girl is ready for Spring.
