Well, Washington finally decided it's Spring time... I think. There are flowers blooming finally, but it's still mostly rain outside. Still, we really needed to get out of the house by the time April rolled around - whether it was rainy or not. So we have just embraced boots and jackets and have been getting outside, usually with Gatsby in tow. It's so fun to go on little family adventures to explore our area whether it's a jog at the park, a hike through the woods, or a visit to the beach and having the puppy come along with us is really fun. But just like the kids, we have to go prepared. I've found that a few key things packed for Gatsby makes getting out with him much easier to stay out and stay active. And it's nothing crazy, but simple things like some extra dog food go a long way when we're out and about in keeping him comfortable and happy.

To put our bag together, I first headed back to Kroger for a bag of Purina Beyond. It's just so convenient to have a high quality dog food the same place I get our regular groceries and the salmon and pumpkin formula has done some amazing things for Gatsby's coat. Its ethically sourced ingredients and nutrition density make it perfect for eating at home, and a snack on the go after a hike. I especially love that it's free of corn, wheat, and soy, that there's no Poultry by-product meal (ew), no added artificial colors or preservatives, and all backed by pet nutritionists. If you want to pick up a bag for yourself, erm.. your pup,  use this link for a $3 off coupon per bag at your local Fred Meyer or Kroger.
I added all of the essentials
  • To go container with Purina Beyond Dog Food
  • A few small dog treats
  • A water bowl so he keeps hydrated
  • Extra waste bags
  • A towel for muddy paws
  • A towel for drooly mouths (#saintbernardprobs)

All, of course, packaged in a Great Gatsby tote bag - seemed like an appropriate way to label that it was his. ;)

At first it seemed silly to make him a bag. "He's a dog... he doesn't need anything!" was my first thought. But at the end of a hike or a couple hours into the beach and we're all hankering for a snack so it seems silly that Gatsby wouldn't be, especially at his size and still growing.

And you might notice I didn't pack any toys. I did at first, but it turns out Gatsby much prefers to hunt his own sticks as a prize over a tennis ball. And luckily we have plenty of those in Washington.
