Organizing the Bathroom Cabinet
I feel like I’m playing hopscotch around the house jumping from project to project, but such is the life of a homeowner. Anyway, I took a little time yesterday and organized the cabinet in our master bathroom. It was driving me crazy not having a specific place for things and for someone who doesn’t have a whole lot of time to get ready in the morning, I definitely didn’t have time to sift through an entire cabinet to find a teasing comb. Admittedly, it wasn’t in shambles or anything, but it definitely needed some improvement. It didn’t take me long to do it and now I just want to leave the cabinets open all the time because it’s so pretty. I know, I’m weird.
This is what we were dealing with before. A bunch of haphazardly stacked bins (that were a pain to get stuff in and out of, by the way), a couple unorganized drawers, and you know, an overly full trash can, because apparently it was too much effort to empty that before taking this picture. Sorry.
I grabbed a few of my favorite plastic drawers from the Container Store (I already had two on hand), which just so happened to fit in my narrow cabinets perfectly, and a tiered drawer set from Amazon. The curved labels and gold book plates are no longer available, but they’re by Martha Stewart for Avery from Staples. Here’s where it all got me.
On the left side, I emptied the trash can (good place to start), and put in a few drawers with labels. This is where I keep stuff we don’t need very often, like extra razors and tooth brushes and my hoard of deodorant because I can’t turn down a buy 4, get a $5 Target gift card deal. I also keep sample sizes of cosmetics and travel goodies in a drawer so it makes it easier to pack when we go on a trip.
The middle set of drawers just needed to be cleaned out and tidied up a bit. The second drawer has random skin care products that I use often enough, but not every day. The bottom drawer holds our electric razors, my Clarisonic, and their accessories.
On the right side are more of my cosmetics. You know, I actually consider myself kind of low maintenance, but you’d never know it by the amount of stuff I have in this cabinet. It could be worse, though. Have you seen some of the YouTube girls’ entire ROOMS dedicated to this stuff??? Anyway, moving on..
The metal drawers/slide out shelves/whatever you want to call them, house my hair products on top and on the bottom are my curling irons and blow dryer. Then on the other side is my makeup organizer, my nail stuff, and my hair accessories (like random hair brushes, combs, hair ties etc.)
Then, up top is the medicine cabinet. We keep in here only what we use every single day. It just needed a little reorganizing and cleaning out, but it pretty much stayed the same.
Now, you know I love a functional space. I especially love a functional space that I use every day. I'm really happy with how this turned out, and it definitely made getting ready this morning a little easier which makes it worth every effort in my book.
