Upstairs House Tour

As promised, I’m continuing with the house tour today and showing you our upstairs. To see our downstairs house tour, click here. Our upstairs has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a linen closet.

Master Bedroom and Bathrom

As soon as you get to the top of the staircase, if you turn left, there’s another small set of stairs that leads to our master suite. We get tons of natural light in here which I just love in the mornings, and it’s pretty spacious. The whole space needs some love and updating, and it’s the first project on the list for 2015.

We have already upgraded our bed to a king size memory foam, and an upholstered bed frame. It was worth every single penny. We also decided to put a TV in the bedroom which actually is kind of nice. I never wanted to be that person, but when I’m tired and just want to watch The Pioneer Woman while cozied under my down comforter, it’s a really great thing to have. We can watch a movie together if we want to, and I know it’ll be nice to have a second TV in the house when everyone wants to watch something different.

The bathroom is going to be an eventual gut and remodel project, but until we’re exactly sure what to do in the space, we’ve decided to do a Phase One update. Basically, just refresh it with some paint, a few details, and replace the carpet (yes…the builder put carpet in the bathroom. Ew. Just. Ew.) with peel and stick vinyl tiles. It won’t cost a lot of money to do it, and it beats living with a space we, I, loathe until the budget allows for a full remodel.

This is the only room in the house that came pre-updated when we bought it. And it’s nice, but it’s not really our style and it’s much too dark for our taste. We’d like to re-do the tile around the tub, lighten the walls, replace the shower fixtures, and down the line replace the brown floor tile. It’s a bathroom for kids – it should be fun! The good news is, it has a new, pretty vanity and a new light fixture that we’re pretty happy with.

I had the boys’ room in the townhouse pretty much perfect, then we decided to move. So, I haven’t done almost anything to this room besides move their stuff into it. I can’t decide whether I’ll just leave it as is and redo it when they’re a little older, or if I’m going to decorate it now. Only time will tell – but I imagine I’ll probably wait until they’re a little older. I have bigger fish to fry.

We are currently using our third bedroom as my office/crafting space. Though I wouldn’t say I’m an avid crafter, I do have craft supplies to store, like my sewing machine, my Silhouette, and paints. I also do all of the filing and paperwork stuff for our household so I needed somewhere to work on that and store all of that. And while my office does serve as a very functional space, I honestly just love the idea of having my own space to do with what I please. I live with five males. Five. So this is my space to make as pink, as glittery, and as “me” as I want. And trust me – I plan to make it just that. For right now, it’s kind of a mix-match of random furniture we had around, some IKEA drawers, and a Pack n Play that I use if I need to work on stuff when the boys are awake.  In fact, my desk is actually our old dining room table from the townhouse.

And that’s the upstairs! Like I said yesterday, I will show y’all the outside spaces and the basement soon. Probably once the snow melts and I can actually get around. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate winter? Well I hate winter.

Anyway – we’re super excited to get started on our bedroom (hopefully the bathroom will be painted by the weekend!) I’ve got a list in mind, though it’s not finalized, of the spaces I want to focus on this year and our bedroom was at the top.

Thanks for joining me. You know I’ll be sure to let you know what we do and how it all turns out.

Until next time,

Sara
